Memories

So we all know that my mom moved right? Well I was going through some boxes and I found the little book that she kept her wedding budget and 1st apartment receipts in. My parents got married in 1970 and divorced in 1979 so its somewhat exciting to see anything related to their actual marriage since I don't really remember them being married. I was 6 when they got the divorced and apparently I have repressed a lot from their last year of marriage. Anyway they are good parents and blah blah. The point of this is post is how weddings have changed in 37 years.

Their flowers: $98.00
My flowers: $1000.00 +

Their Bridesmaids gifts: $28.00 for I "think" 4
My Bridesmaids gifts: I am not telling since my posse reads this but they got Coach wristlets, a frame, cute tissues and mints and I had 7 chickees. The flower girl got a pearl bracelet and jewelry box.

Their refrigerator and stove: $200.00
Our refrigerator: $ 600.00

My mom's dress and veil: $200.00
My dress and veil: $900.00 and I think I got a deal on my dress and the veil was on sale for 25% off. The alterations for my dress was $400.00+. See what happens when you are short, have big boobies, a bigger bum and a smaller than you would think given the butt waist?

Their reception for 200: a bit under $2000.00.
Our reception: A hell of a lot more for less people.

My mom's hair and make-up: Free she did it herself with my aunt's help
Mine: I dunno my K-Pooh paid for it as a wedding present because she loves me and I was having a nervous breakdown dealing with the salon. Seriously, dealing with the salon is the only wedding task that drove me to tears. The people could not understand that I had 7 bridesmaids, a flowergirl, a mom and an aunt who needed to have hair and makeup done. I do know it was more than free and less than plastic surgery:-)

Their bridesmaids dress: Under a 100.00 for the entire outfit which included shoes, a hat and I think gloves. They did their own hair and makeup
My bridesmaids: When you add in the shoes, alterations, hair and makeup I think we are close to 400.00 possibly closer to 500.00 depending on the alterations. Since I had so many bridesmaids they got 10% off the dress but anything over a size 12 is considered a "plus" size which means an additional charge so the 10% didn't make a difference. However they didn't have to wear a hat with puffy netting or gloves so I think they made out in the end:-)

Funny eh?

Wedding Update

I am home sick today. I didn't go to Mass with The Man. I just feel off and I don't have any sick time at work so I am trying to stay quiet today and just be a couch french fry.

I am working on the wedding "stuff". My professor for my first class did not assign any reading so I am feeling all sassy this weekend:-D

Saturday we watched the Smart Girl and The Boys for the whole day. The Cousin was the Matron of Honor at her best friend's wedding. Figures we get married in the same year doesn't it? Anyhoo we went to the ceremony and it was really nice. I have hung out with the Bride at various functions for The Cousin so it was nice to see her get married. She had very colorfull flowers and Lord knows I *heart* colors:-D It was funny she has a great laugh and we kept hearing her laugh as we were waiting for the ceremony to begin and then she laughed with her dad right before they walked down the aisle:-D It was nice but DAMN it took us FOREVER to get to the Church. In the first place it was far away and in the second place we hit construction right after we got off the expressway. OYE

I am working on the wedding programs. Its 6 pages so far and I did not put the order of the Mass in there yet. I don't think I am since both of our families are Catholic and the friends that are not Catholic have gone to enough Catholic weddings to follow along. So what do you think?

I got really cool paper at this awesome wedding paper place. I can't wait to use it. Oh this is funny. We went into the paper place and the three boys got bored so they went walking and the Smart Girl and I stayed and spent money. Anyhoo I kept telling her not to touch anything that if she wanted to see something then I would get it for her. She was golden. I on the other hand? Pulled an entire paper display down on my fool head. Yeah clearly I just left my double wide to hang with the rich folk!!

Fun Saturday

The Man and I have a wedding cake!! Yes kids we found one that we liked and we paid for it and its Beeyoutifull!

So now we just need to:

Make the programs

Decorate the candy bags

Buy the candy

Buy the bridesmaids dresses

Buy the flower girl dress

Buy the maid of honor dress

Buy the wedding party gifts

Address and send out the wedding invites

Have a shower or two

And pay for the reception (The Man found someone that needs a kidney and it just so happens that he has a spare, so no problem there)

Yep its a good day for The Duchess

and its a good day for The Man.

How do you ask in wonderment did The Man have a good day? You know he hates shopping and we (Jack, Mr Fix-It and the pookey) dragged him to a OUTLET MALL so how did he possibly have a good day?

Well, I will tell you.

I lost my voice.

Yep.

It was a quiet ride home:-D

Just sitting and thinking

This was a lovely weekend.

We did NOTHING!

No seriously we got Chinese for dinner and that was it! I got a ton of laundry done and we watched Netflix dvd's and "A Mighty Wind" and it was great.

Next weekend?

We will be busy. We are going to check out the cake lady and hopefully order the cake. I am also going to try and bribe The Man into going to Macy's and then to Bed Bath and Beyond to check out the stuff we need and maybe by the grace of all that is good and holy we will register. Oh and on Thursday we (the bridesmaids) are going to look at dresses. I have also checked out some places for the rehersal dinner for the Ohio Momma and I have to send her that info so they can make a decision.

I think we are going to order the invitations on Monday.

We are trucking along very nicely if I do say so myself.

Poor Oatmeally with all of the wedding drama that has taken place lately she has been quite the rock of reason and logic. Yeah those are two of my weak points:-) Its good to have a friend that knows you well enough to know when to push you and when to back off and let you make your own decisions in your own time. Ya know? That is the joy of having a bestest friend, one who has stood by you for the last twenty years. Actually I think she is going for sainthood or our friendship may be some type of endurance test for NASA or something:-D

I saw Scrapbook Girl today and she gave me the stuff I ordered from her scrapbook type show. I ordered a stamp with Love and our names on it and some cool red paper for our programs. I can't wait until we start making them and stamping our candy bags for the reception.

Actually I can't wait to see my posse try on dresses. K-Pooh may not be able to get her dancing groove on with Oatmeally since the store is tiny compared to the warehouse type one we went to in the fall. Never mind she will find a way and the whole store will be dancing with her like in the Drew Carey Show opening credits. Maybe she will start a conga line or something:-)

Oye.

Love you all

2007 The Year of the WEDDING

HI!!

So this is the year of the wedding. all wedding all day all year. OYE let the games begin:-)

I feel llike such a dork but that was my one thought all day New Years Eve and New Years Day. Seriously we went to the Ohio Momma's house and all I kept hearing was BLAH BLAH Wedding BLAH BLAH BLAH. We got to take Loki to Ohio and he was a well behaved puppy boy who made us both proud. Yep no peeing or mayhem took place and a good time was had by all.

On Saturday night The Man, Oatmeally and I went to a party at Frat Boy's house. Big house...HUGE in fact. It was perfectly decorated. No really it looked a like a magazine photo shoot had just taken place. My house? Will never look like that EVER. I want it to on one level but I like the lived in with some mismatch color happening. Perfect table setting for a dinner party that will never take place just frightens me. She keeps the dining room table set all the time but no one actually eats in there.

I have today OFF! So I am watching Dr. 90210. A preacher is having his penile implant fixed on todays episode. Now being Catholic our priests don't marry so maybe that is why I think that having a preacher praying for a penis that works makes me very uncomfortable. Just saying.

By the way.......I AM GETTING MARRIED THIS YEAR SWEET BABY JESUS!!!!!!!
